Workshops
This is someone with little or no clay experience. You might have taken a few classes, but it was years ago. This is someone with little understanding of the difference between coil build, slab building, building with molds, or throwing on the wheel.
This is someone who has taken several clay classes. You feel comfortable enough in clay to be able to make basic forms. Someone who has some knowledge of clay related terminology but is looking to have a better understanding. You’re comfortable working independently.
Someone who has taken several clay classes within the past several years. You feel confident working with clay but are looking to expand your knowledge and skill set. This is someone who is confident working independently.
Paperclay magic! With Graham Hay
There are an amazing number of people who have never used paper clay, and almost as many who haven’t even heard of it. For such an incredible material, that’s more than unfortunate.
When I began working in clay, I attended a paper clay workshop given by Graham Hay – an energetic Aussie who has been working and creating with paper clay since college in 1992. For me, it was an absolute game changer to my fledgling practice. It took clay to yet another level of usability and cleared some important barriers; drying time, fragility, weight, integrating other materials, and more.
Since he learned about paper clay, Graham has given over 300 demonstrations or workshops on paper clay in 12 countries with educational organizations, professional educators and ceramic artists (see website.) This included 13 national/international conferences in 8 countries.
